Client background: menopause symptoms, osteoarthritis and fatigue
Client: Female
Age: 67
When my client came to see me, she was struggling with a combination of menopause symptoms, joint pain, low energy, poor sleep and weight concerns that were increasingly affecting her quality of life.
She had been experiencing osteoarthritis for around five years, with symptoms becoming much more noticeable over the previous three. She had stiffness and pain in her knees, shoulders, wrists and ankles, had previously required cortisone injections in her wrists, and found walking more than three miles difficult. She was also dealing with bursitis of the greater trochanter, crooked toes, and frequent night-time discomfort.
In 2023, she had stopped HRT following a cancer diagnosis, which led to the return of significant menopause symptoms, including:
• intense hot flushes and night sweats
• disrupted sleep
• low energy, especially through autumn and winter
• low mood and anxiety
• brain fog
• restless legs
She also had a history of oesophagitis and acid reflux.
Although she had already reduced her dress size from a 20 to a 16, she still felt uncomfortable in her body and wanted support to feel more energetic, more comfortable, and more confident, rather than simply focusing on weight loss alone.
Health concerns on presentation
Her main goals were support with:
• menopause symptoms after stopping HRT
• joint pain, stiffness and inflammation
• sleep disruption and restless legs
• low energy and brain fog
• digestive health
• sustainable weight loss and body composition
• overall quality of life and resilience
She wanted an approach that felt gentle, realistic and long-term.
A naturopathic nutrition approach to menopause and inflammation
During her initial consultation, we explored her full health history, current symptoms, medical background, lifestyle, and daily routines.
Given the complexity of her case, the focus was on supporting the whole body rather than chasing individual symptoms.
Her personalised naturopathic nutrition plan was designed to support:
• inflammation and joint health
• menopause balance after HRT withdrawal
• nervous system regulation and sleep
• digestive function
• energy production and metabolic health
• sustainable weight management
Rather than restrictive dieting, the emphasis was on nourishment, stability, blood sugar balance and consistency, working alongside her medical care.
Changes were introduced gradually and practically, so her body could respond without overwhelm.
Progress and early results
By making targeted but manageable changes, she began to notice meaningful improvements.
One of the first adjustments was becoming largely dairy-free, which she reported made a noticeable difference.
Over time, she experienced:
Improved energy
Her day-to-day energy levels improved, helping her feel more capable and resilient.
Better sleep
Although still a work in progress, her sleep quality began to improve, with fewer disturbed nights.
Changes in body composition
Her weight started to reduce slowly, but more importantly, her body shape changed, reflecting improvements in metabolic balance rather than rapid scale-focused loss.
Greater awareness and confidence
She developed a clearer understanding of how nutrition was influencing her menopause symptoms, digestion, energy and weight — and felt more empowered to continue building on these foundations.
Client feedback
“Tracey has really opened my eyes to a number of changes I needed to make in order to balance my nutrition. I had been struggling to lose weight and my energy levels were quite low. I looked at the programme Tracey sent me and started making some small changes to my daily routine.
I’m practically dairy free which seems to have made a difference. Energy levels have definitely improved and the sleep is a little better. My weight is slowly dropping but my shape has changed. There’s a long way to go but it’s a long road.
Tracey is very patient (she needs to be with me!) and always on hand to answer questions (even if I’ve asked the same thing twice before!). She certainly knows her stuff.”
